Section for Health Equity Research Training

Faculty in NYU Langone’s Section for Health Equity, within the Division of Health and Behavior, offer training programs and research opportunities for students, community leaders, health professionals, and researchers through the NYU Center for the Study of Asian American Health (CSAAH) and the NYU-CUNY Prevention Research Center (NYU-CUNY PRC).

NYU Center for the Study of Asian American Health Pilot Project Program

CSAAH offers two award types in its Pilot Project Program. We support postdoctoral fellows, junior faculty, and early-stage investigators in performing pilot research and generating preliminary findings on health disparities in Asian American populations and other emerging communities.

Health Disparities Research Training

Our Health Disparities Research Training program is designed to address gaps in health professionals’ skills and training regarding Asian American health. The program provides a unique opportunity for students and health professionals to develop and implement a community-based research project, as well learn strategies to analyze, compile, and disseminate results for academic and policy communities.

Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease Disparities Research Training Program (K07 Award)

This Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease Disparities Research Training Program focuses on promoting the training and career development of the next generation of aging and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias researchers to address current aging priorities for improving and advancing health equity among older adult communities. This program offers early investigators and junior faculty an extensive range of training and mentorship opportunities in participatory research principles, health disparities research methods, systems science approaches, and dissemination and implementation research methods to build research expertise in aging and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Community Empowered Research Training

The Community Empowered Research Training program is an academic–community partnership dedicated to strengthening community leadership in research. Geared toward executive directors, program directors, and managers, this program offers free workshops and webinars to strengthen the capacity of community-based organizations to participate in and develop community-focused research initiatives.

Community Health Worker Training

The Section for Health Equity offers technical assistance for training community health workers in partnership with stakeholders across our network. CSAAH and NYU-CUNY PRC faculty have facilitated efforts in training frontline outreach workers, community aides, community health advisors or representatives, promotores(as) de salud, and lay health workers.

We have developed research-based tailored tools and resources for training community health workers in collaboration with NYU Langone’s Community Service Plan. Our free community health worker toolkit contains a user manual, progress note templates to document health encounters, and visual flip charts for community health education.

Community Engagement and Population Health Research Program

The Community Engagement and Population Health Research program of NYU Langone’s Clinical and Translation Science Institute is a partnership of community members, researchers, health and social service providers, community-based organizations, academic investigators, and policymakers working to advance research that identifies and disseminates relevant and effective strategies to improve population health and reduce and eliminate health inequities. CSAAH and the NYU-CUNY PRC are affiliated centers of this program, and work closely with it to support translational research through training, conferences, and symposia.
