DREAM Coalition

Who we are
The DREAM Project is the first large scale community based participatory research project working with the Bangladeshi community in the United States. The project emerged out of a long-standing partnership between the NYU Center for the Study of Asian American Health (CSAAH), Bellevue Hospital, and several community based organizations dedicated to serving the South Asian population. The DREAM Coalition consists of a diverse group of community based organizations, healthcare providers, and academic researchers and was formalized in 2008.
Mission
The mission of the project is to develop, implement, and test a Community Health Worker (CHW) Program designed to improve diabetes control and diabetes-related health complications within the Bangladeshi community in New York City.
Goals
- Build and expand upon a coalition of diverse partners to address the health of the Bangladeshi community in New York City.
- Document diabetes disparities facing the Bangladeshi community.
- Improve diabetes control and management among Bangladeshis with diabetes through outreach, skills-building, and leadership development provided by CHWs.
